Memcached is a distributed memory object caching system, which is used to accelerate the loading speed of database-powered Internet sites by caching the queries and the replies between the website visitor and the server. To put it simply, anytime a given web page on such a site is visited, the script connects to its database to fetch the information that should be displayed to the visitor. In case the latter clicks on a link to open some other web page, the whole process is repeated and this generates plenty of database calls and higher load on the server, even more so if the website has a lot of simultaneous visitors. Memcached "remembers" this information exchange, so in case any of these pages is opened again, the script no longer has to request any content from the database, as everything is provided by the caching platform. Thus, the overall speed of your site will increase and you’ll have more satisfied visitors and they’ll be able to surf through your website much faster. Additionally, Memcached "refreshes" its cache when any data in the database is altered, so the website visitors will never end up seeing out-of-date content.

Memcached in Hosting

If you host script-driven sites in a hosting account with us, you will be able to add the Memcached content caching system to your hosting plan with only a few clicks of the mouse via your Hepsia hosting Control Panel. The upgrade will be available immediately and, since the needed PHP extension is pre-installed on our leading-edge cloud platform, you can start using it right away. To give you more versatility, we offer two separate upgrades related to the number of instances (i.e. how many Internet sites will use Memcached) and to the amount of memory that Memcached will use. The latter is offered in increments of 16 MB and you can order as much memory as you need. Naturally, the more memory Memcached is allowed to use, the more content it will cache, so if you own a resource-intensive site with lots of data, you may need more memory so as to be able to make full use of the power that Memcached can give you.

Memcached in Semi-dedicated Servers

You can get the Memcached content caching system as an upgrade with each of our semi-dedicated plans and since it works with any script-powered app, you can use it for each Internet site that you host on our servers, no matter what application you have used – Joomla, Mambo or WordPress, a custom-developed app, etc. You can add the upgrade through the respective section of the Hepsia Control Panel from which you administer your semi-dedicated account, and you can select two separate features – the number of instances and the amount of system memory that they will use. Basically, these things indicate the number of the Internet sites that will use the Memcached caching system and the total amount of memory that the system will be able to use in order to store your info. The two things are offered separately for more flexibility and one instance does not come bundled with a pre-defined amount of memory. You can take full advantage of Memcached with any kind of website and both you and the site visitors will swiftly note the difference in the overall performance.

Memcached in VPS Servers

Memcached comes by default with each and every VPS server offered by our company as long as you pick Hepsia as your Control Panel, so you will not need to pay anything extra to be able to make the most of the maximum potential of this data caching system. The more powerful Virtual Private Server hosting package you select, the more memory Memcached will have for data caching purposes, but you’ll have at least several hundred megabytes at all times, which is much more than the amount of memory you would get with a shared hosting plan. This will enable you to use the Memcached system for numerous websites, no matter how popular they are, which in turn means that you can use a lower-end package for them without overloading your virtual machine. The caching system is excellent for script-based web applications like WordPress, OpenCart, Joomla or Mambo, and you can use it even with a custom-developed app. Shortly after you activate the Memcached caching system, it will start caching data and you’ll detect the enhanced performance of your sites.

Memcached in Dedicated Servers

Each dedicated server that’s ordered with our Hepsia Control Panel comes with Memcached pre-installed by default, so you can start using the distributed memory object caching system once your server is set up, without needing to upgrade or install anything. The amount of memory that Memcached can use depends on the server that you have selected, but since our servers are rather powerful and due to the fact that it is likely that you’ll host resource-requiring Internet sites on them, the minimum amount of memory that the caching system can use is 3 GB. This will enable you to increase the performance of extremely large websites with no effort and you will observe the difference soon after the Memcached caching system starts caching database calls. You can make full use of the Memcached system with any database-driven portal, including those that are based on widely used CMSs like Joomla and WordPress.
